Flatness Garments explores flat garment cutting methodologies using a study of garments from Miranda Tsui’s book, Flatness Folded (2008). Selected flat garments were further developed using my study of butterfly metamorphosis. I evolved new garments through combining my hand drawings of butterflies with a collage method, to generate new shape possibilities in the flat form of the garment. The spatial ambiguity between the flat and embodied forms of the garments enables spatial creativity in the development of the garment pattern. This series of garments formed part of my PhD, and was exhibited as part of Make.Shift Concepts (Donna Sgro, Armando Chant, Olivier Solente).
